Overview

Syringes, Needles & Bacteriostatic Water in Canada | Everything for Safe Injectable Administration

Safe injectable administration comes down to two things, sterile equipment and the right supplies for the protocol you’re running. Using the wrong gauge needle, the wrong barrel size, or plain sterile water instead of bacteriostatic water for reconstitution are the kinds of avoidable mistakes that compromise both safety and results. Getting the supplies right is straightforward once you understand what each variable means.

True North Performance carries sterile syringes and needles in every size needed for injectable steroid, peptide, and HGH protocols, alongside pharmaceutical grade bacteriostatic water for safe multi draw vial reconstitution.

Choosing the Right Needle Gauge

Needle gauge refers to the thickness of the needle, the higher the gauge number, the finer the needle. For injectable steroids, two needles are used for every injection, one for drawing and one for injecting. Draw needles are thicker; 18–21 gauge because oil based injectable steroids are viscous and flow slowly through fine needles, making drawing from a vial with a 25 gauge needle slow and frustrating. The injection needle is finer; 23–25 gauge  because a thicker needle causes more discomfort and tissue damage at the injection site than necessary.

For peptide and HGH subcutaneous injection, a 29–31 gauge needle in 4–8mm length is the standard, fine enough that most users barely feel the injection, short enough to deposit the compound in subcutaneous fat rather than muscle.

Choosing the Right Syringe Barrel Size

Barrel size determines how much volume the syringe holds and how precisely small volumes can be measured. For injectable steroids at 1–2ml per injection, a 3ml luer lock syringe provides enough capacity with clear graduation markings. For doses under 1ml, a 1ml syringe offers finer graduation for more precise volume measurement.

For peptides and HGH at volumes of 0.1–0.5ml per injection, insulin syringes in 0.5ml and 1ml barrel sizes are the correct choice. Their graduation markings are in units rather than milliliters, on a U-100 insulin syringe, 10 units equals 0.1ml, which is the standard reference point for peptide dosing calculations. Their fixed needle design eliminates dead space that would otherwise waste small volumes of expensive peptide solution.

Bacteriostatic Water | Why It Matters

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol is a bacteriostatic agent, it prevents bacterial growth in the solution after the vial stopper is first punctured. This is the critical difference between bacteriostatic water and plain sterile water for injection.

Once you puncture a vial stopper, the sterile seal is broken. In plain sterile water, bacterial contamination can begin growing immediately, making the reconstituted solution unsafe for use beyond 24 hours. Bacteriostatic water’s benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits this growth, keeping the reconstituted solution safe for multiple draws over up to 30 days of refrigerated storage. Since virtually every peptide and HGH protocol involves multiple injections from a single reconstituted vial over days or weeks, bacteriostatic water is the only appropriate reconstitution medium; plain sterile water is not a safe substitute for multi draw use.

Reconstitution | The Correct Process

Draw the required volume of bacteriostatic water into a syringe. Insert the needle through the vial stopper and inject the water slowly down the inside wall of the vial not directly onto the lyophilized powder. This prevents the force of the water stream from degrading the peptide structure. Swirl the vial gently until the powder fully dissolves, it is extremely important you do not shake. The reconstituted solution is ready to dose. Store refrigerated and use within 30 days.

Sterile Technique

Use a fresh sterile needle and syringe for every injection its important to never reuse equipment. Swab the vial stopper with an alcohol wipe before every draw, then swab the injection site with alcohol and allow it to dry before injecting. Never touch the needle with your fingers or allow it to contact any non sterile surface after uncapping. Dispose of used sharps immediately in a proper sharps container. These practices are not complex, they become habit quickly and eliminate the infection risk that makes injectable protocols dangerous when ignored.

Common Questions About Syringes, Needles & Bacteriostatic Water in Canada

What needle gauge should I use for injecting steroids intramuscularly?

Use a 23–25 gauge needle at 1–1.5 inch length for intramuscular injection of oil based steroids. This range is fine enough for comfortable injection while being robust enough to handle viscous oil based compounds without excessive resistance. Draw from the vial with an 18–21 gauge needle first as oil flows much more easily through a thicker draw needle, then swap to your injection needle before administering.

What needle do I use for subcutaneous peptide injection?

A 29–31 gauge needle in 4–8mm length is the standard for subcutaneous peptide and HGH injection. At this gauge the needle is fine enough that most users feel minimal discomfort but many describe it as barely noticeable. The short length deposits the compound in subcutaneous fat rather than muscle, which is the correct tissue for peptide administration.

Can I use the same needle to draw and inject?

Technically yes but not recommended. Drawing from a vial dulls the needle tip against the rubber stopper, an imperceptibly small amount of dulling that nonetheless makes the injection noticeably less comfortable than a fresh needle. For injectable steroids where you’re drawing with a thick gauge needle and injecting with a finer one anyway, swapping needles between draw and inject is standard practice. For peptide insulin syringes with fixed needles, draw carefully to minimize stopper contact.

How do I calculate my peptide dose using an insulin syringe?

On a U-100 insulin syringe, 1 unit equals 0.01ml. So 10 units equals 0.1ml. If you reconstituted a 5mg BPC-157 vial with 2.5ml of bacteriostatic water, your concentration is 2mg per ml, meaning 0.1ml (10 units) delivers 200mcg. To hit 250mcg you’d draw to 12.5 units. The formula is: desired dose in mcg ÷ concentration in mcg per ml × 1000 = volume in units on a U-100 syringe.

How long does bacteriostatic water last once opened?

Bacteriostatic water in a multi dose vial remains safe to use for up to 28 days after first puncture when stored refrigerated. The benzyl alcohol preservative maintains sterility across multiple draws during this period. After 28 days, discard and use a fresh vial as bacterial inhibition from benzyl alcohol is not indefinite.

What happens if I use plain sterile water instead of bacteriostatic water for peptides?

Plain sterile water contains no bacteriostatic preservative. Once the vial stopper is punctured and the sterile seal is broken, bacterial contamination can grow in the solution. Reconstituted peptides in plain sterile water should be used within 24 hours and are not safe for multi draw protocols extending over days or weeks. Bacteriostatic water is not a luxury, it is the only safe reconstitution medium for any standard peptide or HGH protocol.

Do you ship syringes and needles to all of Canada?
