Description

Clonidine 0.1mg (100mcg) is a prescription tablet used to treat high blood pressure.
It belongs to a class of medications called centrally acting alpha-agonist hypotensive agents, and it treats high blood pressure by decreasing your heart rate and relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily through the body.
Doctors sometimes prescribe it alongside other blood pressure medicines when one drug alone isn’t enough.

Side effects and precautions: The most common complaints are drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and constipation, and some people feel tired or lightheaded when they first start.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, stuffy nose, dry mouth, or constipation may occur, and if any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Never stop taking this medicine abruptly.
Stopping suddenly can bring on headache, fast heartbeat, nausea, anxiety, flushing, and a rapid rise in blood pressure.

There have also been rare reports of severe, possibly fatal reactions, including stroke, from stopping this drug too quickly, so it’s important not to run out or miss doses.
Tell your doctor about any other heart medicines you take, and mention any planned surgery.

Recommended dosage: As directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
The typical adult dose is 0.1mg taken twice a day, morning and bedtime, with a usual maintenance dose of 0.2mg to 0.6mg per day split into two doses.

Your doctor may raise the dose by 0.1mg at weekly intervals until it works well for you.
Swallow tablets as instructed and don’t skip doses, since consistency matters with this medicine.
