Description

Bystolic (nebivolol) is a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure.
Beta-blockers work by relaxing your blood vessels, which reduces the workload on your heart and slows down your heart rate, helping to lower your blood pressure.

Lowering blood pressure lowers your chance of having a stroke or heart attack.
It’s taken once daily, usually as part of a longer-term plan to keep your numbers in a healthy range.

Side effects and precautions:
The most common side effects reported in studies were headache, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhea, and nausea.

It can also make you feel more tired or dizzy, especially in the first few days or after a dose increase — if that happens, sit or lie down and let your doctor know.
Don’t stop taking it on your own, even if you feel fine.
If you have a history of heart problems, stopping suddenly can trigger worsened chest pain, an irregular heart rate, or a heart attack, so any dose reduction needs to happen gradually over one to two weeks under your doctor’s guidance.
Tell your pharmacist about any lung conditions, slow heart rate, or liver problems before starting, and mention all other medications you’re on.

Recommended dosage:
The typical starting dose is 5 mg by mouth once a day, and your prescriber may raise it every two weeks up to a maximum of 40 mg a day depending on how you respond.

It’s taken orally once daily, with or without food.
Take it at the same time each day as directed by your doctor or pharmacist, and don’t adjust the dose yourself.
