Description

Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant used to treat depression. It works by enhancing levels of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain, helping to improve mood and relieve symptoms. Side effects and precautions: Common side effects include sedation, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, and headache. More serious concerns include suicidal thoughts—especially in young adults during the first few months of treatment or after dose changes—and serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition if combined with certain medications. Do not take this with MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping them. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants, which can increase drowsiness.
