Description

Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor used to treat hypertension, heart failure, and acute myocardial infarction.

It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.
This 20 mg tablet is typically part of a maintenance dose for blood pressure control.
Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.

Side effects and precautions:

• A non-productive, persistent cough has been reported with ACE inhibitors and resolves after discontinuation of therapy.
• Common side effects include headache, dizziness, cough, and low blood pressure.
• ACE inhibitors can cause high potassium because they inhibit aldosterone release, though the effect is usually not significant in patients with normal kidney function.
• Serious side effects can include swelling of the lips, face, tongue, or throat—stop taking this medicine and contact your health care provider right away if this occurs.
• Initiation of lisinopril in patients on diuretics may cause significant reductions in blood pressure.
• Lisinopril is contraindicated in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant.

Recommended dosage:
The initial dose is typically 10 mg orally once daily, with a maintenance dose of 20 to 40 mg orally once daily and a maximum dose of 80 mg once daily.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily.
Dosage adjustments may be needed based on your kidney function and blood pressure response.
